Iran’s Supreme Leader Threatens Wider War If US Attacks Again

Mojtaba Khamenei says Washington should not expect a change in policy after Donald Trump’s heavy defeat in the US midterm elections.

Tehran – (Special Correspondent/Web Desk) – Iran’s supreme leader threatens a wider war if the United States starts attacking again. Mojtaba Khamenei made the warning in a written statement on Wednesday.

He said the war in the Middle East would grow bigger if Washington returns to military action. He did not explain what that would look like.

The warning came a day after the US midterm elections. President Donald Trump’s Republicans lost control of Congress. The result may limit his plans at home, but he can still order new strikes.

Khamenei said anyone who hopes Washington will change because of party shifts is badly mistaken. He also said giving in to the US will not stop its hostility toward Iran.

Khamenei took power in March after his father was killed in US-Israeli strikes. He has not appeared in public since then. He speaks only through written messages.

Iran’s top negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, also reacted to the vote. He said Americans had voted against war. He warned that Iran’s “no” would come with a nightmare if Washington ignores its own people.

Judiciary chief Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei said Trump had been defeated both militarily and politically.

The war has been unpopular in the US. Energy prices jumped because of the conflict, and families have felt the pain of higher living costs. Trump admitted that Iran may have played a part in his party’s loss.

On Tuesday, the US struck Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian state media reported five quick explosions. Trump called it a minor attack on a new anti-aircraft site.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they destroyed a US drone over the island. The US has not confirmed this.

Trump has said he may still deal with one or two more targets, including a suspected nuclear site known as Pickaxe Mountain. Iran denies it is a nuclear facility.

Still, he told the Financial Times that a full return to war may not be needed. He said the US is ready, but there may be no reason to go.

Diplomacy is moving fast. Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian said his government still wants to solve the crisis through talks. He said the supreme leader has given new powers to negotiate on topics once off-limits.

Qatar said it is hopeful of an interim deal. China also said that avoiding new fighting is its top priority.

The war began in February, when the US and Israel launched massive strikes on Iran. It has been stuck in a stalemate for months. Iranian officials keep warning of wide retaliation if fighting returns.
