Top Leadership Holds Key Talks on Pakistan's Political and Security Situation

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met President Asif Ali Zardari at the President House on Saturday to discuss the country’s prevailing political and security situation, with particular focus on developments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The prime minister was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs Senator Rana Sanaullah, Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan, Law Minister Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar and Federal Minister Senator Ahad Cheema.

The president was assisted by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leaders, including Senator Sherry Rehman, Syed Naveed Qamar, Senator Saleem Mandviwalla and Dr Asim Hussain.

During the meeting, the participants agreed to convene separate sessions of the National Assembly and the Senate on Tuesday, October 13.

Sources said the meeting also reviewed the latest developments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while participants received a comprehensive briefing on the prevailing security situation.

The discussions covered available constitutional options and the possibility of engagement with opposition parties amid the evolving political situation. Sources added that important decisions were taken during the meeting.
