Google to Boost Investment and Back Government’s Youth Skills Training Programs

Expanded Funding Aimed at Enhancing Digital Skills for Pakistani Youth

Islamabad-On Thursday, a four-member delegation from Google, headed by Scott Beaumont, President of the APAC region, met with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed his enthusiasm for Pakistan’s imminent progress in its digital economy, noting that the country is poised for a significant transformation in this sector.

The Prime Minister shared the government’s strategy to reach a target of $25 billion in exports over the next five years. He highlighted plans to invest in youth training, enhance IT infrastructure, and improve regulatory conditions.

He outlined ongoing efforts to fully digitize Pakistan’s economy and emphasized the importance of partnering with a technology leader like Google to achieve these goals.

The Prime Minister praised Google for its contributions to advancing Pakistan’s digital economy, acknowledging the company’s initiatives that have positively impacted thousands of lives in recent years. He noted with approval that Google has facilitated nearly one million job opportunities for Pakistani youth in 2023 alone, showcasing both Pakistan’s potential in the digital realm and Google’s dedication to upskilling and empowering young people in the country.

Scott Beaumont, President of Google’s APAC region, informed the Prime Minister about Google’s plans to increase its investment in Pakistan and support the government’s youth skills training programs. Beaumont highlighted that the growing youth population and expanding economy are crucial for a tech giant like Google to leverage the economic advantages of technology.

He also announced that Google plans to manufacture 500,000 Chromebooks in Pakistan by 2026, a move expected to transform the country’s IT industry.
