Ghulam Nabi Fai urges international action on Kashmir’s Human Rights crisis

Human rights defenders stand up for what is right, often at great personal risk, Fai said.

WASHINGTON D.C: Ghulam Nabi Fai, a prominent public relations expert and South Asian specialist, has issued a passionate call for international attention to the ongoing human rights situation in Kashmir.

In a tweet shared on social media, Fai highlighted the increasing repression in the region, emphasizing the rising threat to critical voices and legitimate protests, as well as the escalating issue of land grabs in Kashmir.

“Critical voices are under attack. Legitimate protests are curbed, repression is rising. Human rights defenders stand up for what is right, often at great personal risk. We must protect them,” Fai wrote, urging global leaders and human rights organizations to take action. He went on to underline the gravity of the situation in Kashmir, describing the region as facing an “existential threat” due to rising land grabbing activities and India’s growing influence in South Asia.

Fai’s comments were directed at several prominent international bodies, including the United Nations, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and political leaders like French President Emmanuel Macron, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and European Union representatives. His tweet also tagged international organizations such as The Elders, the International Court of Justice (ICJ), and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), calling on them to respond to the brutal realities in Kashmir.
