Daily Fuel Prices: Government Hands Pricing Power to Regulator
New Policy Lets OGRA Set Petrol and Diesel Rates Every Day Based on Global Market
OGRA -(Staff Reporter/Web Desk) – OGRA daily fuel prices will now be set every day, after the federal government handed this power to the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority. This is a major step toward deregulation.
Federal Energy Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik shared the news at a press briefing in Islamabad. Federal Information Minister Atta Ullah Tarar was also present at the event.
Malik said the government had to make a tough call. He explained that fuel relief was already given to the public once war tensions had eased earlier.
Tarar added that the government remains focused on one thing. He said fuel supply across the country is running without any interruption, despite ongoing regional tension.
The main reason behind this move is simple. Oil prices in the international market keep changing fast, especially now, due to fresh conflict between Iran and the US.
Before sharing the cabinet’s decision, Malik thanked the nation. He said people have shown patience while carrying the weight of this ongoing war situation.
He also mentioned the efforts of top military leadership. Despite work from the Chief of Defence Forces and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, along with PM Shehbaz Sharif, the US-Iran conflict keeps growing.
According to Malik, the Cabinet and Prime Minister have approved this new system. OGRA will now decide fuel prices daily, based on what is happening in global oil markets.
He explained that OGRA won’t just post new petrol and diesel rates online. The authority will also share the exact reasons behind each price change, so people understand what they’re paying for.
Malik was honest about one thing. This decision will add some financial pressure on citizens. But he believes the public will soon understand why this step matters for the country.
This shift marks one of the biggest changes in how fuel prices are handled in Pakistan. Instead of fixed periods, prices could now move daily, matching real-time global trends.
For everyday consumers, this means fuel prices may change more often than before. It also means more transparency, since OGRA will explain the “why” behind every rate.
The coming weeks will show how this new pricing system works in practice, especially as the Iran-US situation continues to unfold.
