Fawad Chaudhry Claims Nawaz Sharif Behind Contradictory Statements for Political Gain
Former PTI Minister Highlights Government and Military Consensus on Taliban Talks
ISLAMABAD-Former Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has alleged that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rally in Islamabad’s Sangjani saw lower attendance from Punjab because the provincial government obstructed the party’s caravans.
Despite tight security, a significant number of PTI supporters managed to attend the rally in the federal capital. The city has seen stringent security measures, with 29 areas sealed off and several entry and exit routes blocked by containers.
Additionally, mobile phone and internet services were suspended at the rally site, leading to disruptions such as the suspension of the Metro Bus service. Reports also indicated the discovery of explosive materials at the venue.

Supporters of PTI reportedly clashed with Islamabad police as the rally deadline approached.
Chaudhry criticized the current government for allegedly trying to block the resumption of “normal politics” in Pakistan. He suggested that the return of normal political activities could undermine the government’s legal position and accused the Punjab government of attempting to “suppress political activity” in the province. He noted that Punjab-based MNAs like Hamad Azhar and Mian Aslam Iqbal were restricted from leading efforts, stating that such issues were unique to Punjab and not seen in Sindh.
Chaudhry emphasized that supporters should respond to Imran Khan’s call, reaffirming his commitment to PTI as a national party. He added that due to poor decisions by the establishment, people in Punjab are suffering in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
At the end of the rally, Chaudhry dismissed any speculation about plans for a sit-in protest.
PTI’s Policies Led to Economic Downfall and Rise of Terrorism: Dar
In response to a question, Fawad Chaudhry claimed that Defence Minister Khawaja Asif and Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal are following a particular agenda designed to minimize tensions in Pakistan. He suggested that PML-N President Nawaz Sharif is aligned with this agenda, as indicated by his directives to Rana Sanaullah to issue conciliatory statements while allowing Asif and Iqbal to make contradictory comments. Chaudhry described this strategy as a deliberate political maneuver.
Regarding the possibility of a military trial for Imran Khan, Chaudhry cautioned that such an action could lead to substantial international pressure, stating, “Pakistan cannot afford this gamble; our IMF program is at risk.”
On the topic of negotiations with the Afghan Taliban during the PTI administration, Chaudhry clarified that the cabinet was fully responsible for initiating the talks. He emphasized that it was not merely the decision of former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Faiz Hamid, but rather a decision made by the Government of Pakistan with the full support of the military as an institution.
