CTD Foils Terror Plot in Lahore, Two Militants Killed, Two Flee
Lahore: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) operation on the Dera Ghazi Khan-Quetta road resulted in the killing of two Fitna al-Khawarij terrorists, while two others escaped. According to the CTD spokesperson, the two terrorists were killed by their own accomplices’ firing. The operation also yielded a hand grenade and explosive material from the terrorists’ den. A search operation is underway to capture the remaining terrorists.
This incident marks the second time terrorists have killed one of their own, following a similar incident in August involving a wanted Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) terrorist.
The operation aligns with the government’s efforts to combat terrorism through Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, a national counter-terrorism campaign launched in response to the Central Apex Committee’s recommendations under the National Action Plan.
Pakistan faces numerous challenges, including economic instability, political unrest, and a surge in terrorism. The return of Taliban rulers in Afghanistan in 2021 has led to increased violent attacks, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. According to the Pak Institute for Peace Studies (PIPS), August saw a significant rise in attacks, with 59 incidents reported, including 29 in KP, 28 in Balochistan, and two in Punjab.
