China denies claims of supplying weapons to Iran

Beijing dismisses allegations of military support to Iran

BEIJING: (Web Desk) – China has dismissed allegations that it is supplying or planning to supply weapons to Iran, calling such claims “baseless” and misleading.

The response came after Donald Trump warned that Beijing could face a steep 50% tariff if it provided military support to Tehran.

Recent media reports, citing US intelligence sources, suggested that China might be preparing to deliver air defence systems to Iran in the coming weeks. Other reports claimed that shipments of shoulder-fired missiles may have already been sent.

However, China firmly rejected these claims. Foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun stated that Beijing maintains strict controls over military exports and adheres to both domestic regulations and international obligations.

He emphasized that China opposes what it described as unfounded accusations and attempts to link it to escalating tensions without evidence.

China remains one of Iran’s key economic partners, particularly in energy trade, as it imports a significant portion of Iranian oil. Despite this, analysts note that the relationship between Beijing and Tehran is largely based on economic interests rather than a formal military alliance.

At the same time, China maintains strong ties with Gulf nations and has previously criticized Iran’s actions during regional conflicts, reflecting its balanced approach in the Middle East.
