MOSCOW: (Web Desk) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is set to visit China this week as both countries aim to strengthen bilateral cooperation and coordinate positions on key global issues.

Discussions between the two sides are expected to focus on enhancing cooperation across multiple sectors, strengthening bilateral ties, and exchanging views on regional and international matters of shared concern.

The Russian foreign ministry stated that the talks will also cover ongoing global conflicts, including the war in Ukraine and escalating tensions in the Middle East.

China and Russia maintain close political and economic relations, which have deepened further since Moscow’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, as both countries continue to align on several international policy issues.

Earlier this month, Wang Yi and Lavrov also held a phone call in which they agreed to coordinate efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions in the Middle East.
