LAHORE: (Web Desk) – Azam Nazir Tarar stated on Saturday that there are currently no clear indications regarding a proposed 28th Constitutional Amendment, emphasizing that no formal process has yet been finalized.
Speaking to media representatives in Lahore, the federal law minister said the government would first consult its coalition allies before moving forward on any constitutional proposal. He added that further guidance and discussions would only take place if allied parties showed support for the initiative.
Tarar stressed that the coalition government cannot introduce constitutional amendments without broad consultation and political consensus. He noted that the contours of any proposed amendment would become clearer only after a formal draft is prepared.
The minister also highlighted several governance-related issues currently facing the federation, including demands from Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan regarding stronger local government systems.
According to Tarar, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had assigned the task of building consensus on proposals put forward by MQM leaders. He further said that consultations between the prime minister and President Asif Ali Zardari could help advance discussions on constitutional and political matters.
The law minister reiterated that any constitutional reform process would only move ahead through mutual understanding and agreement among coalition partners and political stakeholders.
