Austrian Court Jails Taylor Swift Concert Attack Plotters
Austria Sentences Men Over Foiled Taylor Swift Concert Terror Plot
NEW YORK: (Web Desk) – An Austrian court on Thursday sentenced a 21-year-old man to 15 years in prison after he admitted plotting a terrorist attack targeting a concert by Taylor Swift in Vienna last year.
The planned attack forced the cancellation of three shows from Swift’s record-breaking “Eras Tour” in the Austrian capital during the summer of 2024 after authorities uncovered an alleged plot linked to the militant Islamic State group.
The main suspect, identified as Beran A., was found guilty on all charges, including planning a terrorist attack and forming an Islamic State cell. The verdict was delivered after several hours of jury deliberations.
According to court proceedings, the accused appeared visibly emotional while hearing the decision, reportedly shaking and repeatedly looking around the courtroom.
Beran A. had been on trial in Wiener Neustadt, near Vienna, on terrorism-related charges and had remained in custody since his arrest shortly before the planned concert dates.
Although he pleaded guilty to most charges, he denied involvement in attempted murder as an accomplice.
A second defendant, 21-year-old Arda K., was also convicted and sentenced to 12 years in prison. Both men still have the right to appeal the verdicts.
During the trial, Beran A. admitted he had become radicalised and believed he needed to “wage jihad,” though he also confessed he feared dying.
He told the court he selected Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium as a target because of the large crowds expected for Swift’s performances.
Investigators said the suspect had searched online for bomb-making instructions and sought guidance on weapons through extremist chat groups and alleged Islamic State contacts.

Prosecutors accused Beran A., Arda K., and a third suspect, Hasan E., of forming a dangerous extremist cell planning attacks in the name of the Islamic State group.
Hasan E. is currently imprisoned in Saudi Arabia over accusations linked to a stabbing attack in Mecca in 2024 that injured multiple people.
The prosecution argued that Beran A. actively promoted extremist ideology by sharing Islamic State propaganda and maintaining contact with other suspects.
The planned concert attack was ultimately prevented with assistance from US intelligence agencies.
Following the cancellation of her Vienna concerts last year, Taylor Swift said the situation left her with “a tremendous amount of guilt” because many fans had travelled for the shows.
In a related case, a Berlin court previously sentenced a Syrian teenager to an 18-month suspended sentence for assisting in the plot.
