Apple Dominates Global Smartphone Sales in Q1 2026

The older iPhone 16 also maintained strong performance

NEW YORK (Web Desk): Apple Inc. has secured a dominant position in the global smartphone market during the first quarter of 2026, with the iPhone 17 emerging as the best-selling smartphone worldwide, according to new data released by Counterpoint Research.

The report shows that the iPhone 17 alone accounted for around 6% of total global smartphone sales in the quarter, followed closely by the iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone 17 Pro, allowing Apple to occupy the top three positions in global rankings. The older iPhone 16 also maintained strong performance, securing sixth place overall.

Analysts noted that compared to Q1 2025, the standard iPhone 17 significantly widened its lead over Pro models, indicating stronger demand for Apple’s base variant, which now offers enhanced value through upgraded features.

In the Android segment, Samsung Electronics continued to lead with its Galaxy A-series lineup. The Samsung Galaxy A07 4G emerged as the best-selling Android smartphone globally, driven primarily by strong demand in emerging markets such as the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America. The Galaxy A17 4G also made it into the global top 10 list, alongside its 5G variant, as well as the Galaxy A56 and Galaxy A36 models.

Apple Posts Record Earnings Ahead of Leadership Change

Despite high expectations, the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra narrowly missed the top 10 rankings due to its later launch window in March 2026, which limited its sales performance compared to earlier-released devices.

Xiaomi Corporation also retained a spot in the global rankings with its Redmi A5, a budget Android Go device that performed well in price-sensitive markets. Like Samsung’s entry-level models, the device’s affordability contributed significantly to its global traction.

Market analysts highlighted that the strong performance of the iPhone 17 was driven by upgrades such as increased base storage, improved camera capabilities, and a higher refresh-rate display, bringing the standard model closer in appeal to Apple’s Pro lineup. The device recorded double-digit year-on-year growth in major markets including China and the United States, while sales in South Korea reportedly tripled during the quarter.
