Anthropic $2 Trillion Valuation Targeted as Revenue Jumps 50 Percent
The Claude maker reports adjusted profit and strong growth as it prepares for a possible November stock market debut.
Anthropic – (Staff Reporter/Web Desk) – Anthropic is reportedly aiming for a $2 trillion valuation as it gets ready for a stock market debut. The company’s sales have grown fast, and it now says it is making an adjusted profit.
The San Francisco AI company made $16.8 billion in the September quarter. That is about 50 percent higher than before, according to US media reports.
The news came out after a private meeting with investors on Wednesday. The meeting took place at the company’s headquarters. The Financial Times and Bloomberg shared details from the session.
Anthropic is said to be targeting November for its IPO. That date comes after the US midterm elections.
If the plan works, the company would beat SpaceX. SpaceX set a record in June when it went public at a $1.8 trillion valuation.
During the meeting, Anthropic showed investors a presentation on its finances. The numbers were given on an adjusted basis.
Adjusted figures leave out some costs. Many companies use this method, but it can make results look better than the full picture.
On that basis, Anthropic said it was free cash flow positive in the third quarter. It also reported an operating margin of 11 percent.
Put simply, the company says it earned more cash than it spent during the quarter. That is a big step for a young AI business.
The picture is not fully clear yet, though. Earlier reports said Anthropic lost $42 billion last year. That is a net loss, so it includes all costs.
The company also thinks the opportunity is huge. Reports say it believes it is chasing a market worth $30 trillion.
Anthropic’s yearly sales pace has also grown. Its annualised revenue reached $65 billion earlier this year. The New York Times says it could reach $100 billion by the end of 2026.
Annualised revenue takes recent sales and projects them over a full year. It is an estimate, not money already earned.
Rival OpenAI is behind on this measure. Axios reported last week that OpenAI’s annualised revenue is $50 billion.
Still, the two numbers are hard to compare. Each company calculates annualised revenue in its own way, so the gap may not be exact.
Anthropic builds AI models and products. Its best-known product is Claude, which people use for writing, coding and research.
OpenAI is best known for ChatGPT. Unlike Anthropic, it has pushed its IPO plans back to 2027.
For now, the Anthropic $2 trillion valuation is only a target. Nothing is final until the company files its papers and investors place their orders.
Still, the latest numbers give the IPO story more weight. Investors will now watch to see if the profit holds and if the losses shrink.
