Amir Jamaat-e-Islami Condemns Agency’s Authority to Record Calls

Amidst fervent calls for government accountability, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman vowed to compel authorities to alleviate public hardships.

LAHORE: Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, voiced strong opposition against the agency’s authority to record calls, labeling it a violation of human rights during a media address at the Ichhra Lahore dharna camp.

Amidst fervent calls for government accountability, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman vowed to compel authorities to alleviate public hardships. He criticized the lack of tangible relief for citizens despite extensive publicity expenditures, citing unfulfilled promises of free electricity and advocating for reduced electricity prices and tax abolishment.

Pointing out financial burdens imposed by capacity charges and contracts with IPPs, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman called for immediate termination of contracts, including those with Chinese IPPs, emphasizing mutual respect in international relations.

He highlighted the burden on Pakistan’s salaried class, citing substantial payments and bureaucratic exemptions from property taxes as unjust. Criticizing reliance on IMF directives, he urged transparency in agreements affecting public welfare, urging citizens to join a planned sit-in on July 12 in Islamabad.

Jamaat-e-Islami workers have mobilized across various cities, including Lahore, setting up camps to galvanize support ahead of the anticipated protest.
