WASHIGNTON: (Web Desk) – Algeria and Austria secured places in the FIFA World Cup Round of 32 after advancing from their group, while Iran’s campaign came to an end following the conclusion of the group-stage matches.
Austria reached the World Cup knockout stage for the first time in 72 years and will now face Spain in the next round.
Algeria also booked its place in the Round of 32 and is set to take on Switzerland. The Algerian side progressed after finishing ahead on tiebreak criteria, including a superior goal difference and defensive record, following a level outcome with Austria in the group standings.
Iran, meanwhile, was eliminated after failing to secure enough points to qualify for the knockout rounds.

In the group’s other fixture, defending champions Argentina defeated Jordan 3-1 to complete a flawless group-stage campaign.
Giovani Lo Celso opened the scoring for Argentina before Lautaro Martinez doubled the advantage from the penalty spot. Jordan pulled one back through Mousa Al-Tamari, but Lionel Messi came off the bench to seal the victory with his sixth goal of the tournament.
Argentina finished the group stage with three wins from three matches, collecting the maximum nine points to comfortably top the standings and head into the knockout rounds with strong momentum.
