ISLAMABAD: Pakistan-China CPEC Collaboration Boosts Infrastructure Development. Pakistan’s partnership with Chinese construction companies via the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is poised to accelerate infrastructure and real estate development, tapping into Chinese expertise for efficient and sustainable construction practices.

Dr. Liaqat Ali Shah, Head of Policy CPEC at the Centre of Excellence for CPEC, emphasized the strategic focus of Chinese investment in crucial sectors like power generation, railways, and highways, particularly targeting underdeveloped regions. He highlighted the extensive expertise of Chinese construction firms, honed through rapid urbanization, in delivering high-quality infrastructure.

This collaboration aligns with global sustainable development goals, prioritizing eco-friendly practices and green materials, thereby contributing to climate action objectives. Dr. Shah underscored the importance of training programs to cultivate a skilled construction workforce in Pakistan, essential for the success of CPEC projects.

Despite challenges noted in the SBP Annual Report 2023, which highlighted factors like increased input prices and borrowing costs, the collaboration has already engaged thousands of Chinese and Pakistani engineers and workers in various CPEC initiatives, showcasing tangible progress in infrastructure development.
