Pakistan and UK Agree to Boost Counter-Terrorism and Cybercrime Cooperation

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and UK Security Minister Dan Jarvis also agreed to finalise an anti-narcotics MoU soon.

Pakistan & UK – (Staff Reporter/Web Desk) – Pakistan and the United Kingdom have agreed to work more closely on counter-terrorism and cybercrime. The Ministry of Interior shared this news in a statement on Friday.

The two countries will also strengthen cooperation on anti-narcotics efforts, immigration, coast guard operations and training programmes.

The understanding came during a meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and UK Minister of State for Security Dan Jarvis. The meeting took place at the Ministry of Interior. Both sides also held talks at the delegation level.

Jarvis recognised the sacrifices Pakistan has made in the fight against terrorism. He also praised the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for its work in reducing illegal immigration.

He said cybercrime is a global problem. According to him, every country must work together to deal with it properly. He added that Pakistan and the UK already cooperate well in many areas and want to grow that partnership further.

Both sides agreed to finalise a memorandum of understanding on anti-narcotics cooperation soon. Once signed, it should make cooperation between the UK’s National Crime Agency and Pakistan’s Anti-Narcotics Force fully operational.

Naqvi said Pakistan has stopped 330 cases of drug smuggling to the UK over the past few years.

The two sides also decided to hold a meeting of the working group set up between their interior ministries. It will take place soon.

Jarvis also welcomed progress under the upskill project. He said it is helping build the skills and capacity of Pakistani institutions.

British High Commissioner Jane Marriott attended the meeting. Officials from relevant Pakistani security and government bodies were present as well.
