Saudi Coalition Intercepts Missile Fired Toward Medina Region Near Yanbu

Houthis deny targeting the holy city and say their attacks focus only on oil facilities and military bases

Saudi Arabia vs Yemen’s Houthi – (Special Correspondent/Web Desk) – Saudi coalition intercepts missile launched by Yemen’s Houthi group toward the Medina region on Thursday. The coalition said its air defences destroyed the weapon before it could cause harm.

Coalition spokesman Turki al-Malki shared the news in a post on X. He called the Houthis a “terrorist militia” and said the missile was a ballistic type.

The announcement came just minutes after a warning from Saudi Arabia’s civil defence agency. It alerted people to a possible danger near Yanbu, a key port on the Red Sea.

It is still unclear whether the two events are linked. No official has yet explained the connection, if there is one.

The Houthis quickly denied the claim. They said any suggestion that they targeted Medina was a “blatant and grave falsehood.”

In a statement, the group said its operations hit only oil facilities and military bases. It added that its forces would never target the holy cities of Mecca or Medina.

Medina is home to one of Islam’s holiest sites. Any attack near the city would cause deep anger across the Muslim world.

The Houthis have been waging a campaign against the kingdom for some time. They have struck airports, energy sites and military bases.

Yanbu has been a repeated target in recent months. The National Early Warning Platform in Yanbu Governorate issued the latest alert to warn people of potential danger.

The port matters a great deal to the world’s oil supply. It sits at the end of the East-West Pipeline, which lets Saudi oil bypass the blockaded Strait of Hormuz.

Since the Middle East war began, this route has helped Riyadh send crude oil and fuel to global markets. Any threat to Yanbu therefore worries traders and governments far beyond Saudi Arabia.

For now, the facts remain limited. The coalition says the missile was stopped, while the Houthis say Medina was never their target.
