Pakistan Assumes G-24 Chairmanship As Aurangzeb Outlines Three Strategic Priorities

Aurangzeb Vows To Strengthen Developing Countries' Voice In Global Financial Institutions

ISLAMABAD: (Finance Reporter) – Pakistan has officially assumed the chairmanship of the Intergovernmental Group of Twenty-Four (G-24), marking a significant development in its efforts to strengthen the collective voice of developing economies in the global financial system.

Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to promoting a fairer, more inclusive and development-focused international financial system, describing the chairmanship as a major responsibility.

In his statement, Aurangzeb stressed the need for renewed international cooperation, stronger multilateral institutions and coordinated global efforts to tackle climate-related challenges, development financing shortages and increasing economic fragmentation.

Outlining Pakistan’s priorities for its tenure, the finance minister identified three key areas: promoting development-led economic growth, strengthening the representation of developing countries in international financial institutions and reforming the global financial architecture.

He said Pakistan would pursue its agenda in line with the G-24’s longstanding principles of consultation, consensus and collective advocacy.

Aurangzeb also pledged to work closely with member countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank and other international partners, to turn shared objectives into practical outcomes.

He emphasised that the success of collective leadership should ultimately be measured through tangible improvements in development outcomes.
