UK Far-Right Activist Tommy Robinson Convicted of Harassing Two Reporters

A London jury decided the activist made two reporters fear violence after a newspaper story about his holiday during the 2024 riots.

UK – (Special Correspondent/Web Desk) – Tommy Robinson, the far-right activist, has been found guilty of harassing two journalists and making them fear violence. The 43-year-old told the court his full name is Stephen Lennon.

A jury at Southwark Crown Court reached its verdict after more than 11 hours. Ten jurors agreed on both charges, while two did not.

The victims are freelance reporter Andrew Young and Daily Mail editor Jacob Dirnhuber. Prosecutors called Robinson a bully. They said both men felt they had to leave their homes or pay for extra security.

The case began in August 2024. The Daily Mail and MailOnline ran a story about Robinson during the riots that followed the Southport murders of three girls. It said he was stoking trouble from a sunbed while on holiday in Cyprus.

Robinson had posted about the unrest online while abroad. The paper sent Young and a photographer to the island.

After the story ran, Robinson attacked both journalists on X. The court heard he then hired private investigators to find their home addresses. He also targeted the Daily Mail’s editor-in-chief, Ted Verity.

Jurors accepted that this was meant to scare the men. Robinson posted a photo of Dirnhuber outside his home. He also shared cropped pictures of Young’s family.

The court heard that Robinson’s tone grew darker. In a phone call on August 5, 2024, he told Young he was coming to get him.

Young was given a close protection officer by the paper. Dirnhuber had to move house. Another reporter, George Odling, also left his family home out of concern.

Verity gave police a voicemail from Robinson. In it, Robinson said he had found all of them.

Robinson said the newspaper had put his own family at risk. He cried in the witness box as he spoke about his children. The jury did not accept his claim.
