Tarar announces fuel relief details amid rising petrol prices

ISLAMABAD: (Mudassar Iqbal) – Federal Information Minister Atta Tarar said Sunday that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had introduced a fuel relief scheme to provide assistance to people affected by rising petroleum prices.

Speaking about the scheme, Tarar said the prime minister was personally monitoring its implementation and had set the eligibility criteria for motorcycles, motorcycle rickshaws and rickshaws.

He said vehicles up to 20 years old would qualify for the scheme. Motorcycles and rickshaws registered on or after January 1, 2006, would be eligible for the relief, according to the minister.

Tarar said around 2.2 million people had registered for the scheme, while 1.9 million tokens had so far been issued.

The minister also spoke about the Islamabad High Court’s directives regarding the planned political protest, saying roads must not be blocked and normal traffic flow should not be disrupted.

He said the government would ensure that public life was not disturbed in accordance with the court’s order.

Tarar further said roads in Islamabad would remain open and the government would not permit any violent group to enter the federal capital.
