Sohail Afridi Claims Assassination Attempt Foiled During Wazirabad Visit

WAZIRABAD: (Web Desk) – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has claimed that his security team foiled an alleged attempt to assassinate him in Wazirabad and detained an armed man carrying a pistol.

According to Afridi, the suspect had been sent to target him during his visit to Wazirabad. He said his security personnel intercepted the man and recovered a pistol before handing him over to the local police.

However, Gujranwala police have rejected the characterization of the detained person as an alleged assassin, saying he was actually a police constable deployed for security duties.

Police said the officer was in plain clothes and had shown his police identification card, but was nevertheless subjected to violence by the chief minister’s security personnel. According to police, the relevant station house officer intervened and rescued the constable.

The contrasting accounts have emerged amid heightened tensions surrounding Afridi’s ongoing political activities in Punjab. The chief minister had also alleged a day earlier that authorities sealed venues he visited in Sialkot and switched off generators during his stay.

Afridi has previously made several allegations concerning the treatment of his security team and party workers during his Punjab visit, while Punjab authorities have disputed some of his claims.
