Egypt Bus Crash Kills 21 People Near Dahab-Nuweiba Road

Egypt – (Special Correspondent/Web Desk) – An Egypt bus crash has left at least 21 people dead after a passenger vehicle overturned on the Dahab-Nuweiba road in South Sinai on Wednesday. The country’s health ministry confirmed the toll as rescue teams rushed to the scene.

The accident happened on a stretch of road connecting two well-known coastal towns. Both Dahab and Nuweiba draw large numbers of visitors each year, thanks to their coral reefs, calm waters, and desert mountain trails.

Officials say the bus was carrying 43 passengers when it flipped over. Twenty ambulances were sent to help the injured, and medical teams worked quickly to move survivors to nearby hospitals.

Among those killed were several Jordanian citizens. Jordan’s foreign ministry said early reports pointed to both deaths and injuries among its nationals riding the bus. State broadcaster Al-Mamlaka later reported that ten Jordanians lost their lives in the crash.

The exact reason behind the rollover has not yet been made public. Egyptian authorities said the injured are receiving treatment, but a full investigation into the cause is still ongoing.

This part of South Sinai sees heavy traffic from both tourists and local commuters. Its rugged terrain, sharp turns, and long desert stretches have made the route a familiar site for past accidents.

Road safety remains a serious concern across Egypt. Crashes are frequently linked to careless driving habits, poorly maintained vehicles, and gaps in traffic law enforcement.

This is not an isolated case. Just last month, a separate crash in northern Egypt killed at least 18 people, many of them young farm workers, after two pick-up trucks collided.

The bigger picture is even more troubling. Egypt’s own statistics agency reported nearly 6,000 road deaths across the country last year alone.

For a nation that depends heavily on tourism, especially along its Red Sea coastline, incidents like this raise fresh questions about transport safety standards for both visitors and residents.

Families of the victims are now awaiting official confirmation of names and further details. Jordanian officials are working with Egyptian counterparts to support those affected and repatriate victims where needed.

As investigators piece together what led to the rollover, many are calling for stricter checks on long-distance buses that travel these coastal desert routes. Until then, the tragedy stands as another painful reminder of how fragile road safety remains in the region.
