ISLAMABAD: (Health Desk): A new study has revealed that limiting sugar intake during the earliest stages of life may have long-term benefits for brain health and could significantly reduce the risk of developing dementia in old age.

According to researchers, individuals who were exposed to little or no sugar during their mother’s pregnancy and throughout the first two years after birth had a 23 percent lower risk of developing dementia later in life compared with those who experienced higher sugar exposure during this critical period.

The findings highlight the importance of early-life nutrition and suggest that dietary habits established before and shortly after birth may influence cognitive health decades later.

Researchers explained that excessive sugar consumption has already been associated with several serious health problems, particularly Type 2 diabetes, which is known to affect blood vessels and increase the risk of neurological disorders, including dementia.
