Wildfires Force NASA Evacuation at Spain Space Facility

Spain Wildfires Evacuate NASA Facility, Affecting Deep Space Communications

PARIS: (Web Desk) – Massive wildfires sweeping across Europe have forced NASA to evacuate one of its key deep-space communication facilities in Spain, temporarily affecting operations linked to spacecraft communication.

The Madrid Deep Space Communications Complex (MDSCC), located in Robledo near Madrid, was evacuated as a precaution after nearby wildfires reached the area. NASA confirmed that all personnel were safely removed from the facility, while officials will assess possible damage once conditions become safe.

The facility is one of three major locations in NASA’s Deep Space Network, which enables communication with spacecraft exploring distant regions of space. The agency said mission support has been smoothly shifted to its other facilities in Canberra, Australia, and Goldstone, California.

NASA emphasized that the safety of its staff remains the top priority and expressed support for communities affected by the ongoing wildfires.
