Man Arrested After Firing Near Information Minister Atta Tarar’s Vehicle in Lahore

Authorities are investigating the motive behind the incident.

Lahore: (Staff Reporter) A man has been arrested after allegedly opening aerial fire near the vehicle of Federal Information Minister Atta Tarar in Lahore’s Defence A area late Saturday night, police said.

According to police, the suspect, identified as Osama, overtook the minister’s vehicle before firing shots into the air. No injuries or damage were reported during the incident.

Law enforcement officials arrested the suspect shortly afterward and recovered the weapon allegedly used in the firing. The vehicle driven by the accused has also been taken into custody as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police said the suspect was traced with the assistance of the Safe City Authority, which used surveillance technology to identify and locate him. Authorities are investigating the motive behind the incident.

Speaking after the incident, Information Minister Atta Tarar said he was safe and described the episode as an act of reckless behavior by a young man celebrating the weekend. He added that he did not consider it a serious matter.

Tarar’s mother, Sajida Tarar, also stated that the firing was not intended to target her son. She said the minister was returning home around 3:00 a.m. when he heard gunshots near his vehicle, after which he followed the suspect’s car and informed the police, leading to the man’s arrest.

According to the initial investigation, the suspect has a previous criminal record and had reportedly been arrested in connection with a similar firing incident in the past. Police have launched a detailed investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the case.
