WASHINGTON: (News Desk) – US President Donald Trump has expressed appreciation toward Iran after the release of an American citizen who had been detained in the country, describing the move as a positive gesture despite ongoing tensions between Washington and Tehran.
In a statement shared on Truth Social, Trump said the US citizen, who was detained in Iran in December 2024, had safely left the country and was in good condition. He thanked Iran for what he called a “gesture of goodwill.”
The statement represented a rare expression of acknowledgment from Trump toward Tehran as relations between the two countries remain strained due to continued political and security disputes.
Trump also indicated that communication channels between the United States and Iran remain active. Speaking in Pennsylvania, he repeated his earlier comments that representatives from both sides were still in contact, suggesting that diplomatic discussions have not completely stopped.
Addressing questions about reported strikes on Iranian infrastructure, including bridges, Trump said he does not prefer setting deadlines but urged Iran to take a different approach.
He added that Iranian officials were interested in discussions and resolving outstanding issues, saying the coming period would show whether an agreement could be reached or whether the situation would move toward a final resolution.
