Lahore: (Web Desk) – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that voluntary blood donors play a vital role in strengthening society, describing them as individuals who serve not just patients but entire communities.
In her message on International Blood Donor Day, she urged citizens—especially young people—to actively participate in blood donation campaigns and support life-saving healthcare efforts.
She stated that every individual who donates blood for humanitarian purposes deserves respect and appreciation for their contribution to society.
The Chief Minister highlighted that citizens can register as blood donors through the Safe City website or by visiting the nearest police service centre, making the process more accessible and organised across Punjab.
She further noted that Punjab has introduced Pakistan’s first formal virtual blood bank system to streamline emergency blood supply services.

According to her, people can contact emergency helpline 15 and press button 4 to connect with the virtual blood bank, which links patients directly with registered donors during emergencies.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif said the system has been designed to reduce delays in accessing safe blood and ensure timely assistance for patients in critical conditions.
She added that the initiative aligns with global healthcare standards, citing the World Health Organization, which emphasizes that access to safe blood is a key component of an effective healthcare system.
