NASA Names Artemis III Crew Members 2027 as Spacesuit Delays Raise Moon Mission Concerns

Four Astronauts Selected as Artemis III Crew Members 2027 Ahead of Planned Space Docking Mission

NASA – (Web Desk) – NASA has officially announced the Artemis III crew members 2027 mission will include four astronauts selected to carry out a historic space docking rehearsal in low Earth orbit.

The four crew members are Andre Douglas, who will make his very first trip to space, veteran astronaut Frank Rubio, test pilot Randy Bresnik, and European Space Agency astronaut Luca Parmitano from Italy.

The main goal of the Artemis III mission is to test how NASA’s Orion spacecraft docks with a lunar lander in space. SpaceX is building the Starship rocket, which is being considered as the moon lander for this mission.

NASA has changed its original plan. Instead of landing on the moon, Artemis III will now focus on a low Earth orbit docking rehearsal. This change is seen as an important step before any actual moon landing attempt.

The crew will launch from Florida using the same Orion capsule that flew on the Artemis II mission. However, it is still not confirmed which company’s lunar lander will be used.

Earlier, NASA put two private companies in competition to build the moon lander. The company that has its lander ready by 2027 will be chosen for the mission.

There is also a concern about the new spacesuits. A NASA audit found that spacesuits being built by private company Axiom Space may not be ready before 2028, which could affect future mission timelines.
