Liuzhou Earthquake Shakes South China — Buildings Down, Rescue Teams Race Against Time

Souch China – (Web Desk) – Rescue workers search through collapsed buildings in Liuzhou, Guangxi, after a 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck the city in the early hours of Monday morning.A powerful Liuzhou earthquake jolted southern China in the dead of night, killing two people and sending thousands running into the streets in fear.

The 5.2-magnitude quake struck Liuzhou city in the Guangxi region at 12:21 am on Monday. State news agency Xinhua confirmed one person was still missing by morning, with rescue teams working around the clock.

Among the dead were a 63-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman. State broadcaster CCTV identified them as a couple, making the loss even more heartbreaking for their community.

Thirteen buildings collapsed during the tremor. Authorities quickly moved over 7,000 residents to safer locations as a precaution, while emergency crews combed through the rubble using sniffer dogs and heavy machinery.

Footage aired by CCTV showed residents rushing out of high-rise buildings in panic, streets covered in debris, and rescue workers carefully picking through the wreckage searching for the missing person.

Earthquakes are not rare in China. Just last January, a much deadlier quake hit the remote Tibet region, claiming at least 126 lives and damaging thousands of homes across the area.
