ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Ilham Aliyev held a telephone conversation on Tuesday, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in key areas, including trade, investment, energy cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office Pakistan media wing, both leaders expressed satisfaction over the positive momentum in relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
The discussion was described as warm and cordial, during which the two leaders exchanged greetings and reiterated the strong fraternal ties between the two countries.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended his best wishes to President Ilham Aliyev for the upcoming World Urban Forum scheduled to be held in Baku next week. He expressed confidence that the forum would serve as an important platform for advancing global urban development goals under Azerbaijan’s leadership.
He also noted that due to prior official commitments, he would be unable to attend the event in person, but confirmed that Pakistan would be appropriately represented at the forum.

Both leaders also exchanged views on regional developments of mutual concern, including ongoing peace efforts in the Middle East.
President Ilham Aliyev appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in helping facilitate a ceasefire between Iran and the United States, calling it a reflection of the international community’s trust in Pakistan’s leadership.
The two sides agreed to maintain close communication and expressed optimism about meeting in person later this year.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also reiterated his invitation to President Aliyev to undertake an official visit to Pakistan at a mutually convenient time.
