CDA, Nepal Discuss Sister Cities, Civic Cooperation
Surveys 6,500 Buildings, Orders Fire Safety Certification Across Islamabad
ISLAMABAD- (News Desk): Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, on Tuesday met with the Ambassador of Nepal to Pakistan, H.E. Rita Dhital, at the CDA Headquarters to discuss matters of mutual interest and ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation at the civic level.
Welcoming the Nepali envoy, Chairman CDA said that Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with the brotherly country Nepal and remains committed to expanding cooperation in urban development, environmental protection, and people-to-people contact. The meeting was attended by CDA Board Member (Admin) Talat Mahmood and other senior officials.
During the discussion, Ambassador Rita Dhital praised the beauty, greenery, and urban planning of Islamabad, highlighting the significant role played by CDA in preserving the natural environment of the Federal Capital. She noted that Islamabad’s extensive green belts, parks, and open spaces contribute to a peaceful and healthy urban environment.
CDA Hosts Organic Community Market in Islamabad
Chairman CDA informed the ambassador that CDA strictly follows the Islamabad Master Plan to protect green cover and ensure sustainable development. He said that maintaining Islamabad’s ecological balance remains one of the authority’s top priorities.
Both sides also discussed a proposal to declare Islamabad and Kathmandu as sister cities. The Nepali ambassador shared that work on the draft agreement for sister city status is currently underway, which would help promote cooperation in culture, tourism, urban planning, and environmental initiatives.
The meeting further reviewed the plot allocated for the Nepali Embassy in the Diplomatic Enclave. Chairman CDA assured full facilitation in all matters related to the establishment and development of the Nepali diplomatic mission.
Chairman CDA also briefed the ambassador on ongoing beautification and uplift projects in the Diplomatic Enclave, stating that improving infrastructure and aesthetics in the area is among CDA’s key priorities. He extended a special invitation to Ambassador Dhital to participate in the upcoming spring tree plantation campaign, beginning next month.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of mutual commitment to strengthening cooperation, enhancing diplomatic engagement, and promoting sustainable urban development between Islamabad and Kathmandu.
