Karachi: Search Operation at Gul Plaza Nears Completion, DNA Tests Underway

Karachi (Web Desk): The search operation at Gul Plaza, conducted to recover the bodies and remains of victims, has entered its final stages.

Deputy Commissioner South, Javed Nabi, stated that the search operation is almost complete and the building is set to be sealed tomorrow. Investigations will be accelerated once the case is officially registered.

Javed Nabi added that one section of the building remains unsearched, with no confirmed reports of bodies there. Out of 82 missing persons, relatives who have yet to provide DNA samples for 13 individuals can still come forward. He also noted that some families had provided different names for the same individual. So far, DNA matches have been confirmed for 23 people, and identification has been completed for 23 out of 73 deceased victims.

Meanwhile, SSP City, Arif Aziz, confirmed that statements from security personnel and other witnesses have been recorded following the registration of the case.

Aziz said that all aspects, including negligence and lapses in security, will be thoroughly examined. Six security guards were on duty at Gul Plaza, and their statements have been taken.

He further revealed that a DVR has been recovered, which is being analyzed to understand why the doors were locked and why they were not opened after the fire, as part of the ongoing investigation.
