Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb on Monday lauded the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for achieving what he described as a historic level of tax collection in December 2025, calling it a clear sign of the success of the government’s fiscal and digital reforms.
Addressing FBR field formations through a video link, the finance minister congratulated officers and staff on their improved performance, noting that the revenue body collected more than one billion rupees in taxes during the month. He said the Inland Revenue Service alone contributed over Rs 1.3 billion to the total collection.
According to the finance minister, overall tax collection in December showed a 59 per cent increase compared to the corresponding period, reflecting significant gains across major tax heads. Income tax collection recorded a sharp rise of 107 per cent, while sales tax increased by 25 percent. Federal excise duty saw a 6 per cent growth, and customs duty collections increased by 15 per cent.
Aurangzeb said these figures demonstrate that ongoing fiscal discipline and digital reforms are yielding tangible results. He noted that the government remains committed to strengthening revenue generation and ensuring transparency in the tax system.
The finance minister also reiterated the government’s resolve to further widen the tax net, stating that efforts would be doubled to bring more individuals and sectors into the formal economy in the coming months.
