Pakistan Kashmir Accountability Demand Raised on Anti-Torture Day

PM Raises Pakistan Kashmir Accountability Demand on International Torture Day

ISLAMABAD – (Web Desk) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has raised a strong Pakistan Kashmir accountability demand on the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture. He called on the world community to take action against human rights abuses in Indian-administered Kashmir and Gaza.

Sharif said the people of Kashmir and Palestine are suffering under foreign occupation. He described the situation as state repression, brutal torture, and inhuman treatment that cannot be ignored any longer.

The Prime Minister said the international community has a shared responsibility. He urged the United Nations and global human rights bodies to hold the perpetrators accountable and protect the victims.

Pakistan has long raised concerns about the situation in Indian-administered Kashmir. Sharif pointed to reports by UN experts and rights groups highlighting arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances, custodial torture, and restrictions on free speech in the region.

In November 2025, UN human rights experts expressed serious concern over India’s detention of around 2,800 people following a militant attack in Pahalgam. The experts cited reports of deaths in custody and torture among Kashmiri and Muslim communities.

Sharif also condemned the treatment of Palestinians in Gaza. He called for an independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, in line with internationally agreed terms.

Pakistan does not recognize Israel and has consistently supported the Palestinian cause at the global level.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s full solidarity with torture victims. He said Pakistan will continue to give political, diplomatic, and moral support to Kashmiris in their struggle for self-determination under UN Security Council resolutions.
