CDWP ECNEC Approval Unlocks Major Investment in Pakistan's Digital and Transport Future
Pakistan – (Web Desk) – Pakistan’s CDWP ECNEC approval process moved forward this week as the government greenlit development projects worth over $1.5 billion covering artificial intelligence, railways, and satellite technology.
The Central Development Working Party approved 15 projects worth Rs34.74 billion at its own level. Nine bigger projects totaling Rs431 billion were sent to ECNEC for final approval.
Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal chaired the meeting. He said investments in technology and modern infrastructure are key to turning Pakistan into a knowledge-based economy.
Among the approved projects is the National Artificial Intelligence Ecosystem Development Program. A Robotics Centre of Excellence and a GEO-AI Innovation Hub were also cleared. These steps show Pakistan is serious about building a strong digital base.
On the space side, the PakSat-2 communication satellite project got the green light. It will upgrade Pakistan’s satellite communication system and improve ground control facilities.
The railway sector also got a big push. The ML-3 track upgrade from Rohri to Koh-e-Taftan covering 996 kilometers was recommended for ECNEC approval. Work will run in two phases from 2026 to 2033.
All approved projects fall under the government’s URAAN Pakistan vision which focuses on digital growth, better connectivity, and long-term economic development.
