Islamabad to Ban Vehicles Without M-Tag from January 1

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced that starting January 1, vehicles without an M-Tag will be prohibited from entering Islamabad as part of enhanced security measures and the city’s smart city initiatives.

Chairing a meeting at the Safe City Headquarters, the minister reviewed plans aimed at ensuring the safety of citizens and protecting lives and property. He directed authorities to expedite work on the Capital Smart City project and stressed that enforcement of the M-Tag requirement would commence at the beginning of the new year.

Minister Naqvi highlighted that Islamabad is being developed as Pakistan’s first fully integrated smart city. He requested a comprehensive strategy to transform the existing Safe City system into a fully digital Capital Smart City, leveraging modern surveillance and monitoring technologies.

During the visit, Minister Naqvi, along with Minister of State Talal Chaudhry, toured the Safe City Headquarters and observed the city’s real-time monitoring mechanisms through the digital wall. He also reviewed public safety operations and the use of advanced technology to ensure law and order.

The interior minister further inspected the control room, including the special Chinese desk, emphasizing the importance of modern tools in maintaining security and efficient surveillance across the capital.
