National Registration Exam for Foreign Graduates Held Sunday
PMDC Warns Against SOP Violations, Urges Accredited Medical Education Abroad
ISLAMABAD: The National Registration Exam (NRE) for foreign medical and dental graduates will be held on Sunday in major cities across Pakistan.
The exam will be conducted under the supervision of the National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS), Rawalpindi, in accordance with regulations set by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC).
Test centres have been established in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi and Peshawar. A total of 7,076 candidates have registered for the exam, including 6,989 medical graduates and 87 dental graduates.
According to the distribution, Islamabad/Rawalpindi will host 2,358 medical and 43 dental candidates, Lahore 3,562 medical and 30 dental candidates, Karachi 499 medical and 4 dental candidates, and Peshawar 570 medical and 10 dental candidates.
PMDC stated that foreign medical and dental graduates are not eligible for temporary or permanent registration, nor allowed to practice independently in Pakistan, without passing the NRE. Candidates who successfully clear both stages of the examination will be issued registration certificates as per legal requirements.

The council confirmed that all arrangements for the exam have been finalized. Candidates have been instructed to report to their designated centres by 10:00 am, while the examination will begin at 12:00 pm.
PMDC also warned that any violation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) at exam centres will result in candidates being denied entry. Additionally, the council advised parents to ensure that students seeking medical or dental education abroad enroll only in recognized and accredited institutions, cautioning that admission to unaccredited colleges can seriously harm students’ careers and the credibility of the medical profession.
