Karachi: Body of Child Found 14 Hours After Falling into Manhole at NIPA Chowrangi
Ibrahim’s grandfather told the media that his son and daughter-in-law arrived for shopping around 10:30 PM.
Karachi: The body of a child who fell into an open manhole at NIPA Chowrangi has been recovered, 14 hours after the incident.
Rescue officials said the body was found in a nearby drain, approximately 1.5 kilometers from the site of the accident, and was immediately moved to the morgue.
The child, identified as three-year-old Ibrahim, son of Nabeel, had fallen into the open manhole near Gulshan-e-Iqbal’s NIPA Chowrangi on Sunday night around 11:00 PM. Ibrahim had accompanied his family to the Departmental Store for shopping. His father went to park a bike while the child, running after him, accidentally fell into the uncovered manhole.
Following the incident, local residents staged protests, burning tires and blocking roads, which disrupted traffic in surrounding areas. The track connecting University Road, NIPA to Hasan Square was temporarily closed but has since been reopened.
Protesters also attacked media personnel, damaged vehicle windows, and tried to stop people from going to work. Due to the unrest, rescue operations were temporarily halted. Residents then arranged heavy machinery themselves to help retrieve the child.

Ibrahim’s grandfather told the media that his son and daughter-in-law arrived for shopping around 10:30 PM. While his son went to park the bike, the child ran after him and fell into the open manhole. He described the child as their only son and expressed frustration that, despite more than three hours passing, no assistance came from the authorities, forcing the family and locals to take matters into their own hands. He appealed to the Governor of Sindh, Chief Minister, and Karachi Mayor for help in recovering his child.
