YouTube Tests Private Messaging Feature on Mobile App
The feature is available to users aged 18 and above in Ireland and Poland.
ISLAMABAD — YouTube has begun testing a private messaging feature on its mobile app, allowing a limited group of users to share videos, Shorts, and live streams directly within the app.
According to YouTube, tapping the share button opens a full-screen messaging window where users can start private one-on-one conversations or group chats. The experimental feature also allows users to reply with text, emojis, or videos.
Currently, the feature is available to users aged 18 and above in Ireland and Poland. YouTube said in-app messaging has been one of the most requested features, as users previously had to rely on WhatsApp, email, SMS, or other social media platforms to share videos.
Users will need to send an invitation before starting a chat. They will also have options to delete messages, block contacts, and report conversations. YouTube will monitor messages to prevent violations of community guidelines.

Notably, YouTube had discontinued a similar messaging feature in 2019, although the reasons were not fully disclosed. This time, the company says it has implemented stricter privacy and security measures.
