TTP Emerging as Serious Regional Danger Backed by Afghan Taliban: UN Panel
Sandra Jensen Landi says China has asked committee to support inclusion of BLA on list of designated terrorist organisations
New York-The head of the United Nations Security Council committee on Al-Qaeda sanctions has issued a warning about a “serious threat” posed to the region by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), noting that the group receives full operational backing from the Afghan Taliban.
During the committee meeting on Thursday, Sandra Jensen Landi reported that China has urged the council to consider adding the Balochistan Liberation Army and the Majeed Brigade to the list of designated terrorist organizations.

Landi highlighted that the TTP, which has an estimated strength of nearly 6,000 militants, represents a significant risk to regional security. She pointed out that the group, supported by the Afghan Taliban, continues to carry out major cross-border attacks against Pakistan, resulting in substantial casualties.
Speaking at the same meeting, Pakistan’s deputy representative Usman Jadoon emphasized that Pakistan remains a frontline state in the global fight against terrorism. He credited Pakistan’s efforts with largely dismantling Al-Qaeda and underscored that the country’s security forces and law enforcement agencies continue to actively counter ongoing terrorist threats.China’s representative urged the committee to support the inclusion of the Balochistan Liberation Army and the Majeed Brigade on the terrorist list. During the meeting, Landi also highlighted the use of new technologies by disruptive elements in Africa for dangerous purposes.
