Pakistan Calls for Global Action Against Conflict Sexual Violence

NEW YORK: (Special Reporter) – Pakistan has urged the international community to take stronger and more coordinated measures to eliminate conflict-related sexual violence. The appeal was made by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, during the UN Security Council’s Open Debate on Conflict-Related Sexual Violence.

Addressing the Council, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad said sexual violence in conflict is not an unavoidable outcome of war. Instead, he described it as a deliberate weapon used to spread fear, inflict suffering, suppress communities and impose collective punishment.

He stressed the importance of ensuring consistent and comprehensive accountability for perpetrators. The ambassador reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to working with UN Member States to end impunity, protect the rights and dignity of victims and survivors, and promote justice through stronger international cooperation.
