Cop shot dead while guarding polio team in Nowshera, KP.

Polio worker guard killed in Nowshera, second such attack in Pakistan this week.

Nowshera – (Special Correspondent / Web Desk) – A police officer was shot and killed by unknown attackers in Nowshera, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He was providing security for a team working to vaccinate children against polio. This tragic event happened just one day after another officer was killed while protecting a polio team in the Swat district.

The government started a country-wide polio drive this week. The goal is to vaccinate more than 45 million children. To keep the health workers safe, 285 police officers have been assigned to protect them across Pakistan.

According to police officials, the officer, named Maqsood, died immediately in the attack. Because of his bravery, the polio workers with him were kept safe from harm. The shooting occurred in the Nizampur area.

After the attack, senior police officers visited the location. A large police force quickly arrived, sealed off the area, and began searching for the attackers. Police are trying their best to find those responsible for this crime.

The vaccination campaign in that local area has been temporarily stopped. Security for all other polio teams in the region has been increased to prevent more attacks.

Imran Khan offers to mediate peace between Pakistan, Afghanistan

A funeral with official honors was held for the martyred officer in Nowshera. The service was attended by police and army officers, community leaders, and many local people. His body was then taken to his hometown for burial.

People who give polio vaccines are often targeted by militants, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Just this year, 20 people have been killed and 53 injured during these vaccination campaigns. Militants spread false rumors that the vaccines are a harmful Western plot.

Pakistan is one of only two countries in the world where the polio virus is still a constant threat. Security problems and misinformation have made it very difficult to eliminate the disease.
