Threat from Israel, Egypt Deploys Troops in Sinai Desert

CAIRO – In response to escalating threats from the ongoing conflict in Gaza, Egypt has deployed military forces in the Sinai Desert, signaling heightened concerns over national security.
According to Egypt’s Ministry of Information, the decision to station troops in the strategic region was made as a precautionary measure to address potential threats arising from Israel’s military operations in Gaza.
“The aggression in Gaza poses a direct threat to Egypt’s security. The deployment is aimed at ensuring the country is prepared to respond to any emerging challenges,” a ministry spokesperson stated.
Media reports suggest that under the terms of the 1979 Egypt-Israel peace treaty, Egypt is allowed to maintain lightly armed forces in Sinai. However, the current move indicates increased military preparedness.
Egypt has also upgraded runways at key air bases in Sinai and constructed several underground facilities, signaling a shift in its defense posture in the region.
The development comes as tensions continue to rise along Israel’s borders with Gaza, Lebanon, and now potentially Egypt — raising fears of regional escalation.
