During the clash, a local resident from Salamkot, Yar Muhammad, embraced martyrdom.

Upper Dir: In a significant counterterrorism operation, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) successfully neutralized five terrorists in a joint intelligence-based operation in Upper Dir, officials confirmed on Monday.

The operation, conducted in the areas of Dobando Dara, Barikot, Salamkot, and Hatan Darra, involved heavy exchange of gunfire that continued until late Monday night. According to District Police Officer (DPO) Upper Dir, the operation was launched based on intelligence reports linking the suspects to the August 14 attack on a police van in Panahkot, which resulted in the martyrdom of three policemen and injuries to six others.

During the clash, a local resident from Salamkot, Yar Muhammad, embraced martyrdom. His funeral prayers were offered at Police Lines Dir and were attended by local community members and police officials.

Eight policemen also sustained injuries in the operation. They were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Dir, where doctors confirmed that all are out of danger.

Authorities reported the recovery of four bodies of the slain militants, while a clearance operation is still underway in the surrounding regions. Officials stated that the terrorists had links to cross-border elements and were affiliated with the group “Fitna al-Hindustan,” allegedly backed by Indian intelligence.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi lauded the bravery and professionalism of KP police and the CTD, saying, “The terrorists of Fitna al-Hindustan have been defeated by the valour of our forces.” He reaffirmed the nation’s support for the security forces and their ongoing efforts to eliminate terrorism from the country.

The minister also extended prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured officers and paid tribute to the martyred civilian.
