SUPARCO Announces Eid-ul-Adha Date

Eid-ul-Adha Likely on June 7 as Zil Hajj Moon Not Visible on May 27: SUPARCO

ISLAMABAD: The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has announced that the new moon of Zil Hajj is expected to be born on Tuesday, 27 May 2025 at 8:02 AM (PST).

According to SUPARCO, at the time of sunset on the same day, the moon’s age will be around 11 hours and 34 minutes, which is considered too young to be visible even under clear weather conditions.

The agency added that the duration between sunset and moonset along Pakistan’s coastal belt will be approximately 37 minutes, further reducing the chances of spotting the crescent.

Due to these unfavourable conditions, SUPARCO stated that the moon will not be sightable through the naked eye or even with a telescope anywhere in the country on 27 May. Based on this, the 1st of Zil Hajj is likely to fall on Thursday, 29 May 2025, making Eid-ul-Adha expected on Saturday, 7 June 2025.

The final announcement regarding the beginning of Zil Hajj will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which relies on both scientific data and physical moon sighting reports.
