OPF Chief Lauds Overseas Pakistanis for Boosting National Economy

Support Expats Bringing Investment, Not Criticize Them: OPF Chairman

ISLAMABAD: Syed Qamar Raza, Chairman of the Board of Governors at the Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF), has praised the global Pakistani diaspora for their substantial contributions to the country’s development, particularly in strengthening the national economy through remittances and international engagement.

In a press statement, Raza highlighted that around 11 million Pakistanis currently live abroad, collectively sending over US$ 30 billion in remittances annually. These remittances serve as a vital economic lifeline for Pakistan, helping stabilize the economy and providing resilience during times of crisis. He emphasized that overseas Pakistanis also promote a positive image of the country and contribute to their host nations by fostering business opportunities and sharing professional expertise.

While acknowledging the government’s prioritization of expatriate needs, Raza stressed the need for more comprehensive measures to address their concerns and recognize their patriotism. “Regardless of dual nationality, overseas Pakistanis are true patriots who remain deeply connected to their homeland,” he said. “They are always eager to contribute to Pakistan’s strength and prosperity.”

He further noted that many overseas Pakistanis have established successful ventures in various fields, including politics, health, engineering, and information technology, making Pakistan proud on the global stage. Raza asserted that the economic challenges facing Pakistan could be mitigated if expatriates were given greater respect, ownership, and opportunities to participate in national progress.

“Instead of criticism, we must support and facilitate the efforts of those who want to bring investment and technical know-how to Pakistan,” he said. “This is critical for achieving sustainable economic growth and reducing reliance on foreign loans.”

Reaffirming his commitment as OPF Chairman, Syed Qamar Raza pledged to enhance support systems for overseas Pakistanis, rebuild their trust in government institutions, and empower them to play a leading role in Pakistan’s economic revival.
