Rawalpindi: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has approved a petition allowing PTI founder Imran Khan to undergo a medical examination while incarcerated. Additionally, the court granted him permission to speak with his sons via phone call. The ruling came during the hearing of a case related to the attack on the General Headquarters (GHQ).
The court, led by Judge Amjad Ali Shah, also indicted a new suspect, Shaheer Sikandar, bringing the total number of indicted individuals in the case to 118. Three other petitions were presented during the hearing: one filed by Omar Ayub seeking the case record, and two by Ajmal Sabir and Malik Ansar requesting acquittal. The court has scheduled arguments for these petitions in the next hearing.
In a related development, the prosecution requested that the case be heard on a daily basis from January 13, a request which the court accepted. The case was subsequently adjourned until that date.
Meanwhile, in a separate case in Islamabad, an ATC declared Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and Umar Tanveer Butt as proclaimed offenders in connection with protests held against Imran Khan’s disqualification. The court, led by Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra, also initiated proceedings to declare former federal minister Amir Mahmood Kayani as a proclaimed offender.

PTI leaders Faisal Javed and Wasiq Qayyum appeared before the court, while the cases of the proclaimed offenders were separated from the others. Arrest warrants were issued for several absentees, and the hearing was adjourned until January 15. In addition, Senator Faisal Javed filed a petition requesting the removal of terrorism-related charges from the case, which stems from protests against Imran Khan’s disqualification in 2022, registered at Islamabad’s I-9 Police Station.
