Hezbollah Confirms Death of Hashem Safieddine in Israeli Strike

Israel-(Special Correspondent/Webdesk): Hashem Safieddine, a high-ranking Hezbollah official and widely regarded as the likely successor to the late secretary general Hassan Nasrallah, was killed in an Israeli airstrike, the group announced on Wednesday.

Hezbollah confirmed Safieddine’s death as a result of the Israeli attack. Since Nasrallah’s assassination, Safieddine had been leading the group alongside its deputy secretary general, Naim Qassem. Although no official declaration had been made, he was expected to be formally appointed as the next secretary general.

A relative of Nasrallah, Safieddine was a member of Hezbollah’s Jihad Council, which oversees the group’s military operations, and also chaired its executive council, responsible for managing its financial and administrative affairs.

Safieddine had become a prominent figure within Hezbollah during its ongoing conflict with Israel, frequently representing the organization at public events, funerals, and other gatherings that Nasrallah had avoided due to security risks.

His death marks a significant blow to Hezbollah’s leadership as Israeli airstrikes continue to target Hezbollah strongholds in southern Lebanon, the eastern Bekaa Valley, and southern suburbs of Beirut. Meanwhile, Hezbollah fighters are engaged in efforts to repel Israeli ground incursions.
