Egypt Announces Third Fuel Price Increase of the Year
Diesel prices surge by 17%, while petrol prices rise between 11% and 13% depending on the grade
Egypt’s petroleum ministry announced an increase in fuel prices early Friday, marking the third hike of the year.
As per the announcement, diesel fuel prices have risen by 17%, now costing 13.50 Egyptian pounds ($0.2779) per litre, up from the previous price of 11.50 pounds.
Petrol prices have also been adjusted, with increases ranging from 11% to 13%, depending on the type. Specifically, 80 octane gasoline has increased to 13.75 pounds, 92 octane to 15.25 pounds, and 95 octane to 17 pounds.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly previously stated in July that fuel prices would see gradual increases until the end of 2025, attributing this to the government’s inability to maintain fuel subsidies amid rising consumption.
Additionally, the government’s fuel pricing committee, which typically meets quarterly, has announced that its next meeting will take place in six months.
